"Just start rolling!"

- Chris Silverscreen

Red Carpet Premiere! Smash Hit or Box Office Crash!! is the second mission in Elite Beat Agents and is one of three missions in the game's second act, not counting an unlockable bonus mission.

Story[]

Director Chris Silverscreen calls the Agents for help after the troubled production of his newest film Romancing Meowzilla threatens to make his boss, Mr. Fanny, fire him. The mission, set to the tune of Sum41's "Makes No Difference", plays out across five phases.

Phase one[]

The Agents arrive at Silverscreen's studio with jetpacks. Frustrated, he orders the cameras to start rolling for another take of the film's wedding scene. If the player gets an Elite Beat, the groom, bride and priest do well in reciting their lines for the scene. If the player does poorly, the groom stutters with his lines (to the bride's anger) and Sivlerscreen utters out unintelligible curse words, while calling it "corny". At the end of the phase, the groom must kiss the bride. If the Elite-O-Meter was over half full, he does so successfully. If not, the bride puts up an ugly face and ruins the scene, much to the chagrin of Mr. Fanny.

Phase two[]

The next scene to shoot is a chase scene where a villain kidnaps the bride and the groom must chase him down to rescue her...on horseback. If the player gets an Elite Beat, the chase scene plays out well as scripted. If the player does poorly, the actors are forced to halt the recording to feed the horse some carrots, and Silverscreen once again curses while calling it "cheesy". At the end of the phase, the groom must make a big jump to swoop over and snatch the bride from her captor. If the Elite-O-Meter was over half full, he does so successfully. If not, he misses his target and both him and the villains end up running over Silverscreen, much to the chagrin of Mr. Fanny.

Phase three[]

The next scene to shoot after the chase is another chase, except that the groom and bride must outrun a giant boulder. If the player gets an Elite Beat, the actors do so well. If the player does poorly, they get crushed by the boulder (alongside the cameraman), and Silverscreen becomes annoyed that the stunt has gone wrong. At the end of the phase, the groom must take a big leap with the bride in his arms to finally escape. If the Elite-O-Meter was over half full, he makes it as scripted. If not, Silverscreen is flattened by the boulder, much to the chagrin of Mr. Fanny.

Phase four[]

The next scene to shoot after the boulder scene is a scene where the groom must save the bride from the titular Meowzilla. If the player gets an Elite Beat, the scene plays out as scripted. If the player does poorly, the actors lose interest in performing the scene, much to Silverscreen's frustration. At the end of the phase, the filming crew must slam a prop of Meowzilla's leg on buildings. If the Elite-O-Meter was over half full, the leg will correctly do so. If not, the leg lands on the crew, causing great injury, much to the chagrin of Mr. Fanny.

Final phase[]

The final scene to shoot is a scene where the groom and bride happily unite with nothing to stop them. If the player gets an Elite Beat, the two actors will make a merry conversation. If the player does poorly, the groom once again stumbles with his lines as Silverscreen swears in frustration, while calling the trouble "corny".

Endings[]

  • Best Ending: If the player passed all of the first four phases, Romancing Meowzilla is finished and released to theaters to critical and commercial success, pushing Silverscreen to overnight fame.
  • Normal Ending: If the player passed at least one phase and failed at least one phase before the final one, Romancing Meowzilla is finished and released to theaters and is regarded as a decent film and Silverscreen's first box office hit.
  • Poor Ending: If the player failed all of the first four phases, Romancing Meowzilla is finished and released to theaters, but is panned by critics and becomes a box office bomb, to Silverscreen's dismay.
  • Mission Failure: If the player's Elite-O-Meter reached zero before the mission was completed, production troubles become so severe that Romancing Meowzilla is cancelled and Mr. Fanny fires Silverscreen and his crew, ending his hopes of being a good movie director and getting his colleagues out of a job.

Trivia[]

  • In between scenes, you can see that the clapboard reads "Nintendo Pictures."
  • The main actor in this level is Junior, a recurring character in the series.
  • Meowzilla (who also appeared as a normal kitty in Ouendan in the "Linda Linda" stage) would later reappear in Ouendan 2 as Nyagoron, in the "Zoku" level.
  • The level is supposed to take place in Hollywood, but due to Hollywood and its famous sign being trademarked, the developers had to rename it to Movieland.
  • The level was originally planned to play to the tune of Ricky Martin's "Livin' La Vida Loca", and there are existing snippets of a planned beatmap based on the song designed for the level in early builds of the game. Licensing issues led to the song being scrapped and replaced with Sum41's "Makes No Difference".
  • This mission is just one of two missions in the game to last five phases, with the other one being "NURSE!! Gold Medal Hero or Zero!".
